Frequently Asked Questions

How often should a newsletter come out?

The schedule depends on your organization and the number and types of messages you need to convey. Generally, a monthly or quarterly newsletter is sufficient. Or you could have a regularly timed newsletter - with bulletins for special announcements. There are some organizations that consider doing one newsletter a year - and using it as a marketing piece.

What about the size - how many pages should it be?

Again - size is determined by the communications needs of your organization. However, four to eight pages is the standard. A publication any larger often goes unread, unless needs call for a larger issue. A one-page, two-sided sheet could suffice.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of print over electronic?

Print is more expensive, especially if you have a small press run.  An organization that only runs about 100 newsletters will pay more per until than a publication that has a run of 1000 or more. Electronic is extremely cost effective. But one also has to consider your readership. Will they read a newsletter on line or are they more apt to read a paper publication?

I like to do my own writing, will your organization take my copy and design it into a publication?

Absolutely, Newsletter Plus offers a menu of services. If you prefer to do all your own writing, we provide light copy editing and layout and design. On the other hand, if you prefer that we do all the writing, that, too, is fine: any combination of services that suits your need.

I'd like to have a newsletter, but have no idea what to put in it.

We'll sit down with you to brainstorm the content. The first step in any newsletter is to decide who the audience will be. We'll works with you to develop a publication that targets that audience.

What kind of approvals are involved in a publication?

You are responsible for your own content approvals. You'll receive multiple drafts of your publication until it's exactly what you want. If you have an arrangement where you need compliance approval, that would be your responsibility.

What about photography?

Newsletters Plus provides limited photographic services. For high-end events, we can recommend a professional to you.

I'd like a splashy full color publication. Is that expensive?

If you have a printed newsletter, full color can be costly, especially if you have a small press run. For electronic newsletters, there's no limit and no budget impact for multiple colors.

How much will a newsletter cost?

Newsletters Plus provides a menu of services. Writing is one price, design another - and so on. We would be happy to meet with at no charge and then provide a proposal with costs. When we quote on a  job, electronic publishing is included in the quote. For print production, we obtain quotes form two to three printers so that you can select the best value for your needs.
